Who We Are

More about Los Amigos

Los Amigos—in English, “The Friends”—are friends of Fr. Jack Davis, Sr. Peggy Byrne, and the impoverished of Chimbote, Peru. We assist and support Fr. Jack in his life  effort to bring hope and dignity to the poorest people of Chimbote. We do this because we believe in the Christian principle of social justice and because we are inspired by the dedication and energy of two extraordinary people, Fr. Jack and Sister Peggy.

To respond to the need as effectively as possible, we have organized under several different non-profit organizations. Visitors and donors may hear the names of these entities when they visit Chimbote or attend fundraisers. These entities allow us to provide assistance across international borders and to address the biggest needs as quickly as possible. The entities are:

  • Los Amigos Board of Directors - A 501(c)3 based in the United States and responsible for charitable donations for current programs and day-to-day operating expenses in Chimbote.
  • Los Amigos Foundation - A 501(c)3 based in the United States and responsible for establishing an endowment for future expenses.
  • ACAF - A Peruvian civil association which distributes Los Amigos funds in Chimbote, oversees Peruvian employees working for Los Amigos programs, and maintains compliance with Peruvian law regarding fund distribution and employees. This girl poses with blankets and clothes provided by donors.

Not only are we organized under different bodies but we draw support from several different donor bases, including parishes, individuals, foundations, Rotary Clubs, and various other diverse organizations, all of which have provided money or volunteer time to  advance the mission of Los Amigos. Because of volunteer efforts, administrative costs are kept extremely low, allowing more than 95% of donations to directly fund programs and services.

We are complex. We are diverse. But first and foremost we are friends.
