Planning Your Trip
Visitors and volunteers are welcome. All pay their own expenses including airfare, hotels, bus, and room and board at the mission.
Before you decide if a trip to Chimbote is for you, you may have questions you need answered. Los Amigos executive director, Susan Trnka, is available to answer any questions and can be contacted at strnka@losamigos-chimbote.org or by phone at (701) 540-7242. In addition, Fr Jack and Sr Peggy welcome your questions. Fr Jack can be reached at frjack@terra.com.pe and Sr Peggy can be reached at peggybyrne@yahoo.com
Once you have decided that you want to travel to Chimbote, contact Los Amigos volunteer coordinator in Chimbote at
VC@losamigos-chimbote.org.
The volunteer coordinator can help coordinate your desired travel dates with other visitors and activities at the mission and can help with travel arrangements within Peru.
For example, if you want to be met by a mission representative at either the airport or your hotel in Lima, this can be arranged. All that is expected is that you pay the mission representative's hotel and travel expenses.
To view dates when other groups or individuals plan to visit the mission, view our online calendar.
Visitors are responsible for making their own travel arrangements from their country of origin to Peru, although if you are traveling with a group, the group leader usually will assist with making arrangements. A travel agent in Lima named Hector Cortes has been very helpful in assisting many visitors to Chimbote. Hector speaks English and Spanish and can be reached by phone from the US by calling: 011 511 98 123 777 or via email at
onewaytravel@infonegocio.net.pe. Hector also can assist you if you wish to visit other sites in Peru, such as Machu Picchu or the Amazon.
