Susan Trnka Named Executive Director of Los Amigos

( FARGO, ND, June 1, 2008)—Susan Trnka has begun her duties as executive director for Los Amigos after the position was vacated by Laban Ohito.   For many years Los Amigos has prided itself on being an “all-volunteer” organization but due to rapid growth and thanks to the strong support of thousands of donors to Fr Jack’s mission, Los Amigos has recognized the need for a full time administrative person and central location for its business activities.

Susan Trnka and special friend in Chimbote.Susan was inspired to visit Chimbote for the first time in 1999 after hearing about her oldest daughter Juliet’s trip to Chimbote the previous year.  Having been a member of Nativity Church in Fargo for many years, she had heard stories about a priest named Fr. Jack who was serving the poor of Peru.  Susan became active in leading groups to the mission to experience life amongst the poor. In 2001, she was invited to join the Los Amigos board of directors.  Over the years, she has held various board positions, including secretary, vice president, and most recently president.  In her professional life, Susan is a registered nurse and has worked in nursing administration positions in North Dakota, Texas, and California.

“I have always dreamed of a job where I can use both my heart and my mind to make a difference,” Susan says. “I am blessed to be working with such a passionate group of people.”

Susan and her husband Jeff Trnka will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in November. They have four daughters and one granddaughter and reside in rural West Fargo, ND.
