Good Friday Walk of Faith
Good Friday typically is a special spiritual experience for parishioners in Chimbote. A procession which includes the bishop of Chimbote, clergy, and thousands of the faithful, winds its way up a steep hill on the outskirts of Chimbote, mimicking the footsteps and crucifixion of Jesus. The hill is called “Cerro de la Juventud” (Hill of Youth). It can take several hours for these devoted people to make this journey and along the way the Stations of the Cross are noted. The ultimate goal is to make it to the very top of the hill, where there is a large cross and a beautiful church.
